Newcastle United: PIF set aside ‘big’ amount of cash for summer signing spree

Newcastle United’s Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) ownership are set to big sums available for their summer transfer business, sources have told Football Insider.

Manager Eddie Howe is keen to “reshape” his squad at St James’ Park, and it is expected that there will be several ins and outs ahead of next season in order to facilitate that.

The 48-year-old’s plan has the backing of the club hierarchy, with sources indicating that the Magpies’ chiefs are ready to commit another significant amount of money to the club’s transfer budget.

The Tynesiders look set to miss out on European football for next season, and they are determined to be back fighting at the top end of the table next term.

Howe’s plan to bolster Newcastle’s squad is clear, and the hierarchy are now also ready to sanction another round of big spending.

Newcastle wary of summer 2025 repeat

Newcastle’s finances are in a healthy position despite their heavy spend last summer, with the British record sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool ultimately offsetting most of their own business.

The Magpies spent over £275million on new additions to their squad last summer, but they have not delivered the desired return, given that they are still 24 points adrift of their final total from last season.

2024£63mLewis Hall (£28m from Chelsea)
2023£140mSandro Tonali (£55m from AC Milan)
Newcastle’s spend in the last three summer windows.

A large part of that total spend was splashed on the attacking trio of Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga, who have delivered just eight Premier League goals between them so far.

The club hierarchy are ready to take on round two of their major spend this time around, but they are wary of last year’s errors ahead of the window.

They are fully on board with Howe’s plan to continue to regenerate the squad, but they are keen to ensure that the money spent produces far greater results this time around.

Newcastle are a club who have got their hearts set on growing to challenge the Premier League’s established elite on a yearly basis, and there is a feeling that they still have plenty of work to do on the squad to get to that stage.

Magpies to kick off summer spree with £40m defender

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday that Newcastle are ready to move for Ousmane Diomande again this summer, after another impressive season for Sporting CP.

Both the Magpies and Crystal Palace have been long-term admirers of the 22-year-old centre-back, and they are ready to try and make a concrete move to bring him to the Premier League.

However, Sporting are under no pressure to sell the Ivorian amid an impressive run to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and are only set to consider offers in excess of the £40m mark.

Nevertheless, Newcastle have identified Diomande as a clear target to improve their defence for next term, and with the money available to spend at St James’, they could kick off their summer business with a move for him.
