Newcastle have made an approach for Chelsea defender Kenedy, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that the Magpies are looking to snap up the 21-year-old on loan as Rafa Benitez eyes up yet another raid of the Premier League giants after already doing business with them once this summer.
Kenedy could be joining Christian Atsu in switching Stamford Bridge for St. James’ Park as the left-back isn’t exactly on good terms with his employers at the moment.
The Brazilian caused outrage in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of China with a controversial social media message and is understood to have been training alone ever since the Premier League title-holders returned to London.
The report adds that Kenedy is now facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge and could be offered an exit route by Benitez, who has recently made his transfer frustrations very clear.
Kenedy has only ever earned 22 first-team appearances for Chelsea and spent the first-half of last season on loan at Watford, when he only played once after picking up a serious knee injury.
Football Insider Verdict
Newcastle could probably do with another left-back added to their squad, but Kenedy does not sound like a convincing option. The Brazil Under-23 international has suffered from injuries, indifferent form and controversy in his career and he’s probably a player that Benitez could do with avoiding. The Magpies boss is clearly annoyed by the lack of progress he has been able to make this summer, which means that he is probably eyeing up Kenedy out of sheer frustration more than anything after other targets may have been missed. There has to be someone better out there for Newcastle though, they don’t want to be drawn into signing players just for the sake of it.
In other Newcastle news, Benitez is set to omit this 2015/16 mainstay from his 25-man squad.
