Newcastle have made contact with European giants Inter Milan for forward Stevan Jovetic, according to a report.
Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato Web claimed on their website on Wednesday that the Magpies will “tomorrow” make a new approach for the 27-year-old with manager Rafa Benitez eyeing him as key for his project.
Jovetic has not made an appearance for Inter Milan since a November clash against AC Milan with the 46-time capped Montenegro captain spending the second half of the last campaign on loan at La Liga outfit Sevilla.
He ended up returning seven goals and five assists in 24 appearances in total with the Spanish top-flight side.
Now, those stats could be what is attracting Newcastle to his signature and Jovetic has of course previously spent time in the Premier League with Manchester City, where he scored 11 times in 44 matches between 2013 and 2016.
He also has just two years remaining on his contract at Inter Milan.
Football Insider verdict:
Jovetic would be a massive signing for Newcastle and would definitely help improve a very disappointing summer for the club. The Magpies have lost each of their first three matches in all competitions with defeats in the league against both Tottenham and Huddersfield alongside an after extra time loss against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening. It is clear that some extra quality is needed in the squad and a man of Jovetic’s talents, who was perhaps a bit hard done by at Manchester City would be a step in the right direction for the north east giants.
