Sources: Newcastle move for Leicester midfielder Choudhury collapses

Newcastle United’s proposed loan move for Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury has collapsed, Football Insider understands.

The Magpies had held talks over a deal to sign the 23-year-old temporarily before tonight’s transfer deadline.

However, a Newcastle source has told Football Insider the club could not offload a player to make room in the squad for Choudhury’s arrival and the move is off.

This site first revealed back in early June that the Magpies were looking to sign the former England Under-21 midfielder.

They came close to landing him in January only for the deal to collapse at the eleventh hour.

A Newcastle source told this site at the time that Steve Bruce had spoken with Choudhury about making him one of his top targets in the off-season.

But history has repeated itself in the summer window as Newcastle have failed to clear a pathway for his arrival.

The battleaxe midfielder is under contract at the King Power until 2023 but has seen his game-time diminished in recent months.

He is yet to feature at all in 2021-22 after picking up a combined total of just 11 minutes in Leicester’s last 12 league matches last term.

Newcastle hoped to make him their third transfer of the window after completing a £25m deal for Joe Willock earlier this month.

The Magpies have now added to their roster on deadline day with the loan signing of Santiano Munoz from Santos Laguna.

Newcastle have the option to make the deal for the 17-year-old forward permanent at the end of the season.
