Newcastle striker named in EFL team of Easter

Young Newcastle striker Ivan Toney has been named in the EFL’s team of Easter after starring for Scunthorpe across the weekend.
The 21-year-old attacker is currently on loan at the north Lincolnshire based side until the end of the season and he has certainly impressed at the promotion chasing club since joining in January.
This weekend was a particular highlight for the emerging talent as he struck the only goal in the 1-0 victory over MK Dons on Good Friday before netting a further two goals in the convincing 3-1 win over Chesterfield on Monday.
The Magpies themselves didn’t have the best of weekend’s as they drew 1-1 with Leeds before falling to a 3-1 defeat to Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich team, but fans will be delighted to see blossoming young talent Toney in the team of the weekend, as announced by the official EFL Twitter account.

Toney’s three goals over the weekend have taken his tally up to six from 14 fixtures for Scunthorpe, while he has also chipped in with an assist.

He has also already made four appearances for the Newcastle senior team since joining from Northampton in the summer of 2015 and with three years left on his contract in the north east he will be keen to return in form to the side likely to be in the Premier League next season.
