Newcastle United have tabled an offer for Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun, according to a report.
Turkish news outlet DHA claims that the Magpies have submitted a stunning offer worth £8.9million plus the services of fan favourite Aleksandar Mitrovic in a player exchange deal.
It is understood that Newcastle’s Premier League rivals Crystal Palace have also made bid for the Turkey international worth £10.7million, but it seems that the Magpies’ offer represents better value as it also includes target man Mitrovic.
Turkish football news source Fanatik reported earlier this month that Besiktas top official Ahmet Nur Cebi jetted out to the UK to hold discussions over the possible sale of goal machine Tosun.
The striker has scored 10 goals in 13 appearances across all competitions this season and has helped fire Besiktas into the knock-out rounds of the Champions League by scoring in wins against Monaco and Porto.
Football Insider Verdict
Tosun looks like a very good prospect but it seems baffling that Newcastle would value Mitrovic so low. If the Tynesiders wanted to match the bid that Palace had made, that means that they rated the Serbia international as being worth very little. He arrived at St. James’ Park for £13million from Anderlecht so it would be a massive waste of investment in the 23-year-old who still has some way to go before reaching his potential. The Magpies are strapped for cash and should maybe wait until what comes of their takeover bids before making any real progress in the transfer market. They could be able to sign Tosun in a straight cash deal and flop Mitrovic for his actual value instead.
In other Newcastle United news, the Magpies are joint favourites to sign this England international in January.
