Newcastle tipped to complete 'brilliant' Origi signing after Echo update - pundit

Signing Divock Origi in January would provide Newcastle with “yet another goal threat”, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the potential signing of the 26-year-old would be a “fantastic move” for the Magpies.

According to the Northern Echo (November 23rd), Liverpool striker Origi has been identified by Newcastle as a potential target ahead of the winter transfer window, which opens on 1 January.

The report suggests the Magpies want to bring the Belgian in on a six-month loan deal in order to reboot his career – with the Merseyside club less receptive of the concept.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider (November 23rd) that the club will only make loan signings in the mid-season window.

Champions League and Premier League winner Origi has scored 38 goals in 165 appearances during a seven-year spell with Liverpool.

Campbell insisted the striker’s versatility makes him an ideal target for a January move.

“Origi can play anywhere across that front line,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“And one thing he can do is score goals. We’ve seen that. Even when he’s only on the pitch for a few minutes, he’s a goal threat.

“The fact of the matter is, bringing him in would provide yet another goal threat for Newcastle – and, oh yes, it could be a brilliant signing.”

Origi’s contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the season.

The striker has made eight appearances this season, scoring three goals and registering two assists.
