Newcastle tipped to sign lethal Saint-Maximin ally after confirmed news in last 24 hours - pundit
Danny Mills has tipped Newcastle United to sign a clinical striker after Callum Wilson was ruled out for eight weeks.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Middlesbrough and Leeds United defender insisted Newcastle cannot just rely on Allan Saint-Maximin to score the goals.
Eddie Howe told BBC Sport yesterday (8 January) that Wilson will be out of action for eight weeks after picking up a calf injury during their 1-1 draw with Man United last month (27 December).
The 29-year-old is the club’s top scorer this season with six goals in 15 Premier League games.
Newcastle had 23 shots, nine of which were on target, in their humiliating 1-0 loss to Cambridge United in the FA Cup third round.
“They are going to need somebody to score goals regularly,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“To get out of that situation, you’ve got to score. Simple as that, that’s what it comes down to.
“Are you going to be able to do what Wolves do and get two points a goal? It’s very unlikely.
“Up to this point, Newcastle’s defence hasn’t been amazing. It’s going to have to be a case of scoring a couple of goals in the most part. They’re going to have to find someone who can put the ball in the back of the net.
“Saint-Maximin, we know is great but you need a couple of players in and around him to provide assists and get on the end of things.”
Saint-Maximin has four goals and three assists in 19 top-flight games this term.
Newcastle have only scored 19 goals this season – only three other teams have found the net less often.
