Newcastle tipped to submit Lingard bid as price tag crashes £20m - pundit
Alex McLeish has tipped Newcastle United to launch a move to sign Jesse Lingard in January as contract talks reportedly stall at Old Trafford.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old needs to play regularly for the good of his career.
As revealed by Football Insider (19th November), Lingard is one of five players Manchester United have told they can leave in January.
As reported by the Times (18th November), contract talks between Lingard and the club have collapsed.
He reportedly has no intention of reigniting negotiations.
A United source has told Football Insider the Red Devils have slashed their asking price to just £10million ahead of January.

They were seeking £30million this summer but teams baulked at their demands.
With a cut-price deal on the cards, McLeish backed Newcastle to make a move.
“Lingard went to West Ham and the expectation was lifted a wee bit from his shoulders,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Those expectations were of him being a Man United player. He showed the form that we’ve seen when he got his England caps.
“I think the guy’s got to be playing. He’s got to be playing every week in order to fulfil his career. It wouldn’t surprise me if Newcastle made a move for him.
“It’s not too far away at all. He’s certainly capable. I think that pressure, knowing what he did at West Ham, reinforces his belief in himself.”
Lingard has played eight times this season, although only one of those appearances has come in the starting XI.
However, he has still managed to net twice in five substitute runouts in the Premier League.
