Report: Tottenham given price for prolific Champions League striker, just £18m will seal deal
By Guy Giles
Tottenham Hotspur have been warned that they must expect to pay at least £18million (€20m) for Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun, according to a report.
Turkish outlet Haberturk claim that Besiktas owner Fikret Orman was approached by Spurs representatives while attending the Wyscout Forum at Stamford Bridge.
It is reported that Spurs were told: “It is impossible to make this transfer for €13-14million. The president will not allow it. Prepare €20million.”
Tosun has been in a rich vein of goalscoring form for Besiktas this season, netting 10 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions.
It is his form in the Champions League that has caught the eye of other European clubs, with the Turkish international bagging four goals in four games to fire Besiktas to the top of Group G.

The Haberturk report also claims that representatives from Newcastle also approached the Besiktas delegation with regard to Tosun.
Football Insider verdict:
While this news may seem like a blow to Spurs if they were interested in Tosun, the reality is that if Pochettino really does want the Turkish international, a sum of £18million is still a reasonable one. It was hoped that the signing of Fernando Llorente would ease the burden on Spurs’ main striker Harry Kane, but the Spaniard is yet to score for his new club. Llorente has however shown glimpses of quality when he has played, including a stellar performance as Spurs drew 1-1 with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Pochettino’s opinion of his new striker is unknown, but if he is unhappy with Llorente then a move for Tosun would be a good one. However, the other issue here is whether Tosun would be willing to play second fiddle to Harry Kane. His form for Besiktas would suggest he is happy there, and a move next summer may be a more realistic possibility.
