Report: Newcastle track 19-year-old PL attacker, must overcome stumbling block
By Will Butcher
Newcastle are plotting a move to sign Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo on loan but must convince Jurgen Klopp to sanction a move, according to a report.
The Northern Echo claim the Magpies are interested in the 19-year-old, although one major stumbling block is the willingness of Reds manager Klopp to let him go amid concerns over the lack of depth currently available at Anfield.
Toon boss Rafa Benitez is likely to be in the market for a new winger with two weeks remaining in the January transfer window.
Christian Atsu is currently representing Ghana at the African Cup of Nations, while Sammy Ameobi’s future remains in doubt after returning from League One side Bolton.
Rolando Aarons remains a long-term injury absentee, leaving Benitez with just Matt Ritchie and Yoann Gouffran as his recognised wingers.

With Ojo currently providing back-up to the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana, Klopp could be keen to keep him in Merseyside with a demanding 2016-17 campaign likely to take its toll.
Since his Reds debut against Exeter City in the FA Cup in January 2016, Ojo has gone on to make 12 senior appearance for the Merseyside giants. Scoring one goal, Liverpool’s number 54 has also provided four assists.
Football Insider verdict:
England Under-19’s international Ojo would be a top signing for the Toon as Benitez looks to add depth to his side in order to give Newcastle every chance of gaining automatic promotion back to the Premier League. With loan spells for both Wigan Athletic and Wolves in the second tier of English football, Ojo has experience of the Championship and would hit the ground running if brought to St. James’ Park. Adding pace out wide, Ojo could prove a crucial signing in Benitez’s bid to return Newcastle to the top flight at the first attempt after last season’s relegation. Adding his eye for goal would take weight off of top scorer Dwight Gayle’s shoulders, who could also profit from Ojo’s ability to provide an assist.
