Newcastle fans would jump at the chance to see Andros Townsend return to St. James Park after reacting to a report in excited fashion on Twitter.
The Daily Mail claim Newcastle are weighing up a potential move that would see the 25-year-old move back to Tyneside this month, just six months after moving to Crystal Palace.
Tottenham academy graduate Townsend could be seen as expendable by manager Sam Allardyce after the ex-England manager signed Jeffrey Schlupp from Leicester City.
Making 21 appearances for the Eagles this season, Townsend could be brought in to provide cover on the flanks.
Christian Atsu’s participation at the African Cup of Nations and Sammy Ameobi’s uncertain future with the Toon leaves Benitez with just Matt Ritchie and Yoann Gouffran out wide.
Newcastle fans reacted with delight on Twitter after learning of the news, with many claiming that the England international would be a top signing on Tyneside and could secure them promotion.

Anyone who says no to signing back Andros Townsend is an idiot he did his best when he played and left in a respectful way #NUFC

Making just 13 appearances for the Toon, Townsend scored four goals and provided two assists but could not help prevent the Magpies getting relegated last season.
