Newcastle United backed to complete Youri Tielemans signing amid 'massive' claim - pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Youri Tielemans could be a “massive player” for Newcastle amid reports of a January bid for the Leicester star.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old would be a “great addition”.
According to French outlet Jeunes Footeux (14 September), Newcastle plan to go “on the offensive” to secure the signing of Tielemans in the winter transfer window.
The report claims the Magpies are weighing up a €20million (£17.4million) offer for the Leicester City star.
Tielemans is out of contract at the end of this season and can discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from 1 January.
Whelan suggested the Belgium international would fit seamlessly into “most” of the Premier League’s 20 sides.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’d be a great signing, it really would.
“He could get into most of the Premier League sides if he were to leave in January.
“He’s a fantastic player, aggressive, full of energy. The game looks easy to him at times, you can see he’s a standout in that Leicester side.
“He would be a great signing for any team.
“Tielemans could be a massive player for Newcastle, he really could be. He is that player who finds the pass, breaks into the box – and he can score goals as well.
“He’d be a great addition.”
Newcastle sit 11th in the Premier League after one win and four draws from their opening six games.
Tielemans has started five of Leicester’s seven games so far this term.
