Kieran Maguire: It's 'turmoil behind the scenes' at Newcastle amid Bruce-Ashley 'leak'
The “turmoil behind the scenes” at Newcastle United is not indicative of a well-run club.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the close of the transfer window on 31 August.
This site revealed that Newcastle’s loan move for Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury had collapsed just hours before the 11.00pm cut-off.
The Telegraph reported the following day that Mike Ashley was, to Steve Bruce’s fury, unwilling to sanction a loan fee for the 23-year-old.
It is claimed that the relationship between the owner and the manager is now at its lowest point.
Maguire delivered a damning assessment of the situation behind the scenes at St. James’ Park.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “A good football club will have everybody rowing in the same direction.
“The nature of the consultation between the board and those on the footballing side should be professional.
“What we have at Newcastle, sadly, is turmoil behind the scenes. It’s haphazard, like a firework going off in all different directions.
“Football clubs are very leaky organisations, and this is further evidence of a further feeling of malaise both within the club and on the terraces as well.“
Newcastle’s headline arrival of the summer was the permanent capture of Joe Willock following his impressive loan spell under Bruce last term.
They also added 17-year-old Mexican striker Santiago Munoz on a deadline day loan-to-buy deal.
