Kieran Maguire salutes 'significant' new Newcastle United deal as windfall revealed

Newcastle United have likely banked close to £1million from their new deal with Monster Energy – but the relatively low individual sum is part of a much grander commercial plan.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Magpies announced the new partnership on Tuesday (15 November).

The world-famous California-based brand has become the club’s official energy drink partner.

The exact length of the partnership was not specified, with Newcastle describing the contract as a “multi-year deal.”

The Tynesiders struck also struck a deal with Saudia airlines this week to sponsor their December training camp in their owners’ homeland.

PIF know that growing commercial revenue is key if they are to be able to unlock their spending power in the transfer market under both Uefa and the Premier League’s financial regulations.

Maguire assessed the club’s commercial strategy and described where Monster fit in.

Newcastle’s deal with Monster is likely to be in the high six figures,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

Although Monser are a big brand, it is effectively only getting a small amount of space among their sponsorship portfolio.

I think Newcastle’s aim will be to grow as many individual deals as they can. Collectively, these deals will start to be worth a significant amount of money.

Newcastle are effectively following the model of Man City, Man United and Liverpool in terms of expanding the number of partners.

It’s a case of little and often equals a lot in the grand scheme of things.”
