Newcastle United have 'huge' advantage in landing 'special' January signing after source's reveal today - pundit
Newcastle United have a “huge” advantage in the January transfer window as they look to bolster their squad.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Newcastle will be third at Christmas after winning their final game before the World Cup break, beating Chelsea 1-0 on 12 November.
On Saturday (5 November), this site revealed Newcastle have set aside a “huge sum” of money to spend in January.
A Newcastle source updated to Football Insider on Friday that the club are making background checks on their top targets, with a wide forward one of the main priorities.
Wenham claims Newcastle’s lofty position in the Premier League means they can shop at the top table in January.

“I think it’s huge that they are there,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“When they are talking to players and convincing them to sign, all they have to do is point at the table. Look where we are.
“Look at the progress they have made. They can say to these players that they are in the Champions League spots, come and join us and help us get it over the line.
“Any player the traditional ‘big clubs’ would be looking to sing, Newcastle can be right there too and we know they can match or beat the wages other teams are offering.
“I remember reading a Football Insider report about the money Newcastle can spend in January, they could really sign someone special thanks to their league position.”
Newcastle signed Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Alexander Isak and Matt Targett in the 2022 summer window.
The arrival of Isak broke the club’s transfer record.
