Newcastle United: Eight senior stars tipped to quit St James’ Park in mass summer exodus

Newcastle United are facing a mass exodus of players and need to decide whether they want to back Eddie Howe in the transfer market.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, talking to Football Insider, who lists seven players who could leave St James’ Park this summer.

Newcastle’s transfer business last summer has not yet proved successful, and the club will miss out on European qualification this season.

The club have not replaced the goals of Alexander Isak up-front, with Nick Woltemade linked with a return to Germany after just one season in the Premier League.

Howe will need to rebuild his Newcastle squad this summer, if given the opportunity, as the club’s fanbase is growing frustrated at poor results and performances on the pitch.

Newcastle set for ‘big changes’ this summer

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks Newcastle need a “stable management team” if they are to have a successful transfer window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that the club “have got their work cut out” this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I could see all of them going to be quite honest, I really could.

“I could see a big change in the squad, and they’ve got their work cut out this summer. Anthony Gordon could well be gone. I think Sandro Tonali definitely could be going. Bruno Guimaraes could be as well.

“Tino Livramento, I’m pretty sure is going. We’ve got other players like Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth, Matt Targett, Kieran Trippier’s already said he’s going, so this could be the season of the clear-out and a rebuild.

“This is where you need Eddie Howe and a stable management team to work with the sporting director and put together a new-build squad, in a way that they have a chance to feel a freshness and a way to go forward. And yet there’s still uncertainty.”

Newcastle reveal stance on sacking Eddie Howe

Sources have told Football Insider that Howe’s position at Newcastle is currently safe, and he will be given time to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Howe delivered a major trophy to the club last season, and his work at St James’ Park has earned him the opportunity to continue in the role.

Andoni Iraola leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season means the Spaniard has been linked with a move to replace Howe, but the club are currently not exploring that possibility.

Iraola though could be a candidate in the future if Howe was to leave, as the 43-year-old has enjoyed three successful years at Bournemouth.
