Newcastle United are joining the chase for Senegal forward Habib Diallo following his star showing against Brazil, sources have told Football Insider.

The striker, 28, enhanced his growing reputation with an outstanding display in Senegal's famous 4-2 victory over Brazil in a friendly in Lisbon on Tuesday (20 June).

Newcastle scouts were in attendance at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, home of Sporting Lisbon and Diallo's performance caught their eye.

Diallo scored one goal and assisted two others for Senegal against a star-studded Brazil line-up which included Premier League stars including Newcastle duo Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes, Tottenham forward Richarlison, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson and West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

A number of Premier League clubs are weighing up moves for Diallo following his goalscoring exploits for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 last season.

Diallo scored 20 goals in 37 appearances in Ligue 1 last season with his goals playing a pivotal role in helping Strasbourg stay up.

Strasbourg are aware of the growing interest in Diallo and are unlikely to stand in his way of a move if they receive a suitable offer of around £20million.

The striker's current contract runs until 2025 after he arrived from fellow French side Metz in 2020.

Newcastle

Eddie Howe is looking for quality additions to a Newcastle side that have secured Champions League football for the 2023-24 season.

Diallo would join Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak and Howe's centre-forward options who scored a combined total of 29 goals for the Magpies this season.
