Newcastle United set for 'huge blow' v Crystal Palace after expert's update - pundit

It will be a “huge blow” for Newcastle United if three of their stars miss this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace.

That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ injury woes.

Newcastle travelled to Anfield on Wednesday (31 August) with several key players missing through injury.

On Friday (2 September), injury expert and Football Insider pundit Ben Dinnery revealed Callum Wilson may not play again until October.

Also on Friday, Eddie Howe revealed Bruno Guimaraes and Allan Saint-Maximin are close to a return but may still miss Saturday’s (3 September) game against Crystal Palace.

“These injuries, you could say that about any top teams,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“Liverpool were missing key players and they were struggling at the start of the season. They have a great starting XI but then they lose key players.

“If Man City were to lose Kevin de Bruyne and three or four other players, they have a backup but none of them are De Bruyne.

“If you lose two or three key players then it really upsets the harmony, if one of those players is your match-winner in Callum Wilson and Guimaraes, who has been a sensation, you lose a lot.

“If they get them back for the weekend then they have a much better chance but it’s a huge blow if they are out.”

Newcastle have only won one of their five Premier League matches this season.

However, they have registered three creditable draws against Man City, Brighton and Wolves.
