Sources: Newcastle United line up Marcus Thuram bid and want deal done before January window opens

Newcastle United are willing to pay £10million to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Top clubs across the Premier League and Europe have registered their interest in landing the France striker, 25, ahead of his contract expiring next summer.

Thuram is free to talk to clubs outside Germany from January and could sign a pre-contract with an English club ahead of joining on a free.

Newcastle have identified Thuram as a top talent who will soon be available and could instantly improve their team.

The north-east giants are preparing a bid for the forward after being told by club owners PiF there will be funds available for January signings.

Newcastle are aware of strong competition for Thuram, including from Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, and want a deal in place next month, before the window opens.

Mochengladbach would rather sell Thuram for £10m in the upcoming window rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

He has been in outstanding form this season, banging in 13 goals for the German club from just 17 matches.

That includes a scoring blitz in the Bundesliga before the World Cup, where he is in the squad of tournament challengers France.

The son of national team legend Lilian Thuram has made 119 appearances for Mochengladbach, scoring 41 goals and providing 26 assists.

PiF have given the green light to spend in January but there will not be a repeat of their extensive recruitment of the winter window earlier this year.
