Newcastle United told to U-turn on Jonathan David after journalist's transfer reveal - Campbell
Kevin Campbell has poured cold water on the idea of Newcastle United signing Lille goalscorer Jonathan David.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton favourite said there is no need for the 22-year-old with Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak already at St. James’ Park.
According to the Chronicle‘s Lee Ryder (5 November), the Magpies and Arsenal have been monitoring David this season.
The centre-forward, who is going to the World Cup with Canada, is under contract with Lille until the end of June 2025.
Sources have told Football Insider (5 November) that Newcastle have set aside a ‘huge sum’ to spend in the January transfer window.
When asked by Football Insider if it would be wise for the Tyneside club to spend big on David, Campbell said: “I don’t think there is a need for David.
“Newcastle have already spent a lot of money on Isak. He started really well and then suffered the injury. I’m sure he is making his way back.
“I do not see Jonathan David ending up at Newcastle.
“Callum Wilson has been very good. Between Wilson and Isak they have got that position covered. I would like to see the two of them together as well.”
David has been in impressive form in the 2022-23 campaign.
He has contributed nine goals and three assists in 14 Ligue 1 appearances.
In other news, a source has revealed Newcastle United are set to listen to offers for big name in January amid £10million reveal.
