Newcastle United: Yoane Wissa exit looks inevitable as Nick Woltemade decision made

Newcastle United striker Yoane Wissa surely has no future at the club beyond this summer as they make a plan to keep fellow exit-linked forward Nick Woltemade.

The Magpies signed both Wissa and Woltemade for sizeable fees last summer in a bid to replace Alexander Isak’s attacking prowess.

Wissa had to wait until December to make his debut for the club after suffering numerous setbacks in his recovery from a knee injury.

Woltemade was impressive in the early parts of the season as Eddie Howe’s main striker, but they have each failed to make a real impact since the turn of the year.

Newcastle’s transfer plans regarding the German international have now been confirmed ahead of the summer, with Wissa surely set to leave as a result.

Yoane Wissa moves closer to Newcastle exit with Nick Woltemade set to stay

Wissa last scored for Newcastle against PSV on 21 January, and has not started any of their last 18 games in all competitions.

The emergence of Will Osula has seen Woltemade pushed back into an attacking midfield spot in the last few months, with the 24-year-old putting in some decent showings against Nottingham Forest and West Ham in the last few weeks.

They have both been linked with moves away from the club, but The Telegraph‘s new report states that Newcastle want to keep Woltemade this summer, as they believe that he will cope better with the physicality of the Premier League next season.

With the Germany striker now unlikely to leave, it is surely inevitable that the Magpies instead look to cut their losses on Wissa after such a dismal debut campaign.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle are open to offers for Wissa ahead of the summer window.

He is clearly not trusted by Howe, and with the Magpies likely planning to raise funds after they failed to qualify for the Champions League, the DR Congo star looks set to depart for pastures new.

Kieran Trippier has urged Newcastle to stick with Wissa for next season

Wissa arrived at St James’ Park with huge expectations after scoring 20 goals in 39 games for Brentford last season, as well as 12 in 36 in the campaign prior.

Even though he looks set to leave this summer, with Woltemade being given another chance to prove himself, departing Magpies captain Trippier has insisted that the club should not sell Wissa in the coming months.

Speaking after their recent 3-1 win against West Ham, he said: “Wiss came in with an injury. When you play for this manager, when you play for this team, the intensity is so high.

“He’s been injured. I think he needs another pre-season. Once he does, you’ll see a total difference next season. That’s for sure. He’ll bang in goals. He’s another one who goes under the radar.

“He’ll score goals. You just need to get up to scratch with how the manager wants him to play. It’s demanding. You see it. Next season, he’ll be a huge threat for the football team.”
