'100%' - Cesc Fabregas ready to jump at Newcastle chance
Newcastle United could well be the club to provide Cesc Fabregas with his perfect route into Premier League management.
The Spaniard has previously spoken of his aspirations of managing a top club in the English top flight, and has overseen the Como project extraordinarily well.
The 39-year-old only retired in 2023 but has quickly emerged among the most exciting young managers in the game, and would be a thrilling appointment for the Magpies.
Newcastle only appointed Matthias Jaissle in the summer following the departure of Eddie Howe, but serious concerns over his ability to lead his team forward are appearing.
The Magpies have lost three of their last four games across all competitions, and fell to a dismal 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at St James' Park on Saturday.
Decision-makers will not rush into any decision, but there would surely be huge temptation if Fabregas were to make himself available.
Cesc Fabregas would jump at Newcastle chance
Fabregas is undoubtedly at the top of the list for several Premier League clubs after a seriously impressive time at Como.
The Spaniard is a minority shareholder for the Italian side, and took his first steps in management with the club's youth teams.
He would later become a caretaker manager and assistant, before being permanently appointed in 2024.
Since then, Fabregas has led Como up the table, guiding them to a historic qualification for the Champions League last season having been playing second-tier football just over two years ago.
Despite some recent struggles, the former Arsenal man's side have started well again this season with five wins from their opening nine games across all competitions.
Speaking earlier this year, the 39-year-old refused to rule out a move to the Premier League. "The Premier League is the best league in the world," he told The Telegraph.
"I've always been very, very clear about this; I felt it as a player, and I feel it today as a coach and a fan. But when I was at Chelsea, one day Jose Mourinho told me, 'I still have 30 years of work ahead of me.' So I could stay here in Como for 10 years and still be in the Premier League in 12 or 15 years."
"Football is so unpredictable, everything changes in a second," he added.
In 2024, before he received the permanent job at Como, Fabregas was far more forward with his desires of a Premier League switch.
"You never know how the future will go, but I want to be a main coach,” the former midfielder told Standard Sport. "I am doing my own way at the moment. 100 per cent my ambition one day is to coach a top club in the Premier League, the Champions League."
Fabregas perfect for young Newcastle squad
Como's success has been so impressive partly because of just how remarkably young the squad is.
Fabregas has transformed the likes of Jacobo Ramon, Nico Paz and Martin Baturina into some of Europe's most exciting young players.
While Jaissle is young himself, recent weeks have seen frustration build over his hesitancy to back the likes of Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur to feature for Newcastle.
That surely would not be a problem under Fabregas, and his potential appointment may well be under serious consideration at St James' Park.
