Pete O'Rourke reveals if Matthias Jaissle is fighting for his job at Newcastle
Newcastle United have no plans to sack Matthias Jaissle in the near future despite growing concerns, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies enjoyed a strong start to life under the new boss, but have now won just one of their last five Premier League games, with two wins from seven overall.
A 1-0 defeat at home against Aston Villa last time out has now piled the pressure onto the manager's position, with frustrations continuing to grow from the stands.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Newcastle fans are "infuriated" with the lack of consistency under Jaissle, but the board will not budge.
Instead, they are prepared to accept what is set to be an up-and-down season at St James' Park, with no major expectations on the boss to deliver results as things stand.
Jaissle is believed to be comfortable in his position as a result, despite a poor run of form which has led to growing calls for him to lose his job in the near future.
Could Newcastle opt to sack Matthias Jaissle?
Football Insider revealed on 16 October that Newcastle are not considering sacking Jaissle as things stand and believe he is the man to turn their recent form around.
The boss is extremely highly regarded by the Magpies' ownership, who targeted him as soon as it became clear that Eddie Howe would not continue as manager.
Jaissle will now be given space, time and patience to get his ideas across regardless of what has been an inconsistent start to his tenure, with no internal pressure on his position.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Matthias Jaissle is still highly regarded within the Newcastle hierarchy.
"It wasn't just the results, it was probably the performances where they were sort of out-fought in both games and that one that was what infuriated some of the fans in that respect.
"Newcastle know it's going to be a bit of an up-and-down season, because they've got a young squad and they've made major changes.
"There was a lot of activity in and out of the club during the summer transfer window as well, with Eddie Howe leaving alongside some big players.
"So there's been a few bumps in the road already, but if Newcastle can get their strongest team out then they should have a decent season.
"Jaissle has been a breath of fresh air for a lot of Newcastle fans in that respect, but obviously he needs results and they'll be hoping they can bounce back."
How much would it cost Newcastle to sack Jaissle?
Should Newcastle decide to pull the trigger on Jaissle sooner rather than later, there are concerns about how much it would cost, given he only recently joined the club.
The 38-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year contract in August, with his deal set to run until 2030, leading to concerns about a potentially significant payout.
However, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Newcastle will not be deterred by the fee involved, which will be equal to six months of his yearly salary.
Any settlement would likely be worth a maximum of £5million, with everything already predetermined as is the case in many situations after managerial appointments.
While the boss is not expected to be sacked in the near future, any decision will be made based on their performances on the pitch, rather than any financial concerns.
