Newcastle's expected compensation for sacking Matthias Jaissle revealed - Finance Guru
Newcastle United's decision on the future of Matthias Jaissle will not be influenced by the costs behind it this season.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the head coach's sack pay is likely to be equivalent to six months of his yearly salary.
After six matches of the 2026-27 Premier League season, the Magpies are currently sitting 11th in the table, with a bag of mixed results recently.
Having beaten Hull City before the international break, Newcastle returned with a shock 4-1 defeat to newly promoted Coventry City at the CBS Arena.
The bookies clearly believe that Jaissle is under pressure, but the latest noise coming out of St James' Park is that sacking him is not even being considered yet.
It was always bound to be a tough season after losing several key players, but the 38-year-old's wages will have no determining factor on his future.
Matthias Jaissle sack to cost 'no more than £5m'
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has estimated that cutting ties with Jaissle this early on would only set Newcastle back £5million.
"It's a typical six-to-12 months payment. They'll be on a liquidated damages clause, you would think. So it'll all be predetermined," he said.
"I think, certainly within the first year, it would probably only be six months' money. But I think people get carried away a little bit. It looks terrible to lose by four to a newly promoted team, but it's still early days.
"And they must have known anyway, given the sorts of signings that they made this summer. Newcastle must have known that they were going to have some challenges, some teething problems.
"He's not going to be on anywhere near £20m. To get rid of him, it's probably no more than £5m. Then they've got to bring somebody in."
What are the odds of Newcastle making a change?
Before the defeat to Coventry, Jaissle was priced at 22/1 to be the next Premier League manager sacked, but nothing lasts forever.
Just one game later, and the former Al Ahli manager's odds have fallen to 15/2, but he is by no means the favourite to leave next.
Michael Carrick of Manchester United and Fulham's Alvaro Arbeloa are the two favourites to be relieved of their duties, with the race truly on.
The 2026-27 campaign could throw up some huge surprises, and the sacking of Jaissle after just six games would be one of them.
