Matthias Jaissle is already coming under heavy fire in his first few weeks as Newcastle United manager.

Despite a three-game unbeaten run at the start of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign, the Magpies have now dropped to 11th in the table.

The 4-1 defeat to Coventry City at the CBS Arena was especially frustrating, but there were always likely to be errors in such a young squad.

Injuries have also not helped the new boss, with Anthony Elanga joining Dan Burn and Joelinton on the sidelines back in September.

All three could soon be back on the pitch together, though, and clearly not soon enough, with some supporters questioning the manager already.

The 38-year-old has been in charge for just eight games, but a growing section of the fanbase are pushing for more at St James' Park.

Matthias Jaissle to remain at St James' Park

The bookies would suggest that Jaissle is under more pressure now than he was before the international break. Losing to Coventry can do that.

However, according to the Daily Mail (14 October), Newcastle's hierarchy see no reason to hit the panic button this early into his tenure.

Craig Hope wrote: "The mood inside the club has been one of calm in the wake of the defeat at Coventry, a second 4-1 reverse on the spin away from home.

"There has not, we understand, been any need for shows of support for Jaissle or conversations among the top brass."

It is believed to be "business as usual" at the training ground ahead of facing Aston Villa on Saturday, 17 October, and understandably so.

Newcastle United boss deserves more time

With such a young and inexperienced squad, one that saw it's biggest talents stripped away, it was always going to be a tough transition.

Despite that, Jaissle's win-rate still stands at 50 per cent, having not dropped below that mark at the end of any of his tenures so far.

It is his lowest out of spells with Liefering, RB Salzburg and Al Ahli, though, so he will be chomping at the bit to improve his record in the coming weeks.

With Elanga nearing a return from injury, he should have most of his first-team squad available to him before the busy Christmas period.
