Eddie Howe in 'big trouble' as three more Newcastle stars likely to leave
Newcastle United could be at risk of Premier League relegation if their transfer failures continue throughout the summer.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Eddie Howe cannot afford to lose more players on top of Anthony Gordon.
The England international has joined Barcelona on a £69million deal, with the likes of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, and Lewis Hall all likely to jump ship this summer.
Howe is already under tremendous pressure from the supporters at St James' Park, and losing his best stars ahead of the 2026-27 campaign could seal his fate within weeks.
The Magpies have already lost out on signing Victor Munoz, with Liverpool hijacking the deal from under the club's nose, and very few other transfers look close right now.
Everything appears to be falling apart for Newcastle just days into the summer transfer window, and if it continues, it is believed that relegation could be on the cards.
Relegation warnings sparked at Newcastle United
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson discussed the players who are likely next to leave, and how difficult it will be to replace them.
"There's no way they can go into a season losing [Anthony] Gordon, [Sandro] Tonali and [Bruno] Guimaraes. I just don't think that's a viable route to take," he said.
"But there's clearly an issue generally in the club. The players clearly want to leave. It's a really challenging situation they've got now this summer.
"Because it looks like one of those two midfielders is going to go. They could lose both, and Lewis Hall has takers.
"They're not going to need the money from a FFP perspective, but it's still going to be a very difficult situation to then get back into the market, and to try and get high quality players that other people aren't going to try and steal away at the last minute.
"They need to somehow wrestle back the momentum. That's going to require some big signings, and it's going to require the signings working and winning.
"We know how hard that is. It's not a good situation for Newcastle. I think they could be in big trouble. I don't know if going to be relegation trouble, but I just think it's going to cause them quite a lot of difficulty."
Who are the dream signings for Eddie Howe this summer?
Supporters would argue that the striker position will be the most important this summer, with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa both struggling.
Jean-Philippe Mateta and Dusan Vlahovic would both be suitable replacements, especially the latter, who is available on a free transfer.
Given Tino Livramento's injury problems as well, doubled with Kieran Trippier's departure, Newcastle should be desperate for at least one more full-back.
And moving into midfield, if both Guimaraes and Tonali are to keep new clubs, any money made from outgoings must be reinvested straight into the market.
Howe simply cannot afford to lose two-thirds of his talented midfield trio. Otherwise, Newcastle really could be in deep trouble next season.
