Newcastle are reportedly exploring a move to sign Benfica right-back Amar Dedic after he previously worked with Matthias Jaissle at Red Bull Salzburg.
Jaissle is looking to bolster his backline options before the window closes, after taking over at Newcastle last week.
The Magpies are in the market for a new right-back after Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth left the club at the end of their respective contracts earlier in the summer.
19-year-old Leo Shahar is the only alternative to Tino Livramento as it stands, who is currently sidelined with a calf injury and last played for the Magpies in April.
A new report from Sam C on X has claimed that Benfica defender Dedic is on the Magpies' radar as they seek to sign a new right-back soon.
Dedic has previously worked with Jaissle and could arrive as Newcastle's sixth summer signing in the coming days.
Who is Amar Dedic?
Dedic was born in the state of Salzburg, Austria to Bosnian parents, and has gone to represent their home country at international level.
He spent time in the Sturm Graz and RB Salzburg academies before making his senior professional debut for the latter's feeder club, Liefering, at just 16-years-old in July 2019.
The right-back, who stands at five feet and 11 inches tall, made his debut for Salzburg in September 2020, but made a real breakthrough on loan at Wolfsberger in the 2021-22 campaign.
He became a regular for Salzburg in 2022-23 under Jaissle at just 20-years-old, being named in the Austrian Bundesliga's Team of the Season as they won the title.
Dedic wore the captain's armband 20 times in the following campaign, continuing his fine form before being loaned out to Marseille for the second half of the 2024-25 campaign.
Benfica recognised his potential and signed him permanently for £10million in July 2025, as he went on to register five goal contributions in 43 games last season.
Dedic has represented Bosnia at several youth levels, and has made 31 appearances for their senior team since debuting in 2022.
What has Jaissle said about Dedic in the past?
Sources have told Football Insider that Jaissle has "major concerns" about the state of his Newcastle squad, but he has the chance to rectify their tough window over the next few weeks.
He gave Dedic the chance to impress for his boyhood club back in 2022, and explained why he had trusted him when asked by reporters at the time.
Jaissle said: “At the moment I see Amar on the right side of defence. But he can also play on the left or in central defence. Amar’s dribbling and crosses are very good. He also has a great attacking drive.”
