Matthias Jaissle hit by 'major concerns' ahead of Newcastle appointment

Matthias Jaissle is already bracing for "major" problems at Newcastle United as behind-the-scenes concerns continue to ramp up.

The 38-year-old quickly emerged as the leading candidate for the Magpies following Eddie Howe's resignation, and is highly-regarded for his work in Austria and Saudi Arabia.

However, a change in manager will not be enough to resolve the growing list of concerns that has built up at St James' Park and ultimately led to Howe's departure.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that Jaissle has now inherited Howe's concerns and may be in for a shock upon his appointment as manager.

Concerns about the Mahpies' transfer window activity have been well-publicised, following the major departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, with Bruno Guimaraes likely to follow.

Meanwhile, a clear downward slope from Champions League qualification to last season's 12th-placed finish has raised question marks about the quality of players at their disposal.

What is in store for Matthias Jaissle at Newcastle United?

Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Jaissle is facing immediate concerns ahead of his appointment at Newcastle with at least one more star player set to leave.

Talks are ongoing with the manager behind the scenes to finalise his appointment after reoprts he has stepped down from his position at Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ahli.

However, his job upon arrival will not be straight forward by any means, with Howe's frustrations leading to concerns for his successor.

"The Newcastle job will be a tough one for whoever they get to replace Howe," Brown told Football Insider.

"Your problems don't just miraculously go away after bringing in a new manager, it's just that somebody else now has to deal with them, and they might take a different approach.

"But it would be a major concern for any manager coming in, seeing what Howe was dealing with in terms of his best players being sold.

"Plus, we've spoken before about how Newcastle find it difficult to attract top players to come in, so there's a very high chance he will be starting the season with a weakened squad.

"It was a dissappointing season last time out, but it seems like it could get worse, because they're heading into the new season without some of their most important players.

"It's now going to be up to the new manager to deal with all of these issues, and get the players on his side, and that's going to be a very difficult job."

What is Jaissle's biggest concern at Newcastle?

Despite facing a number of concerns upon his appointment as Newcastle manager, the most immediate of those is the club's transfer market activity.

There have been concerns both about outgoing and incoming players in the last 12 months, as the Magpies have so far failed to replace major departures in key areas.

Brown told Football Insider on 14 July that Newcastle have a "big problem" when it comes to replacing their players and getting deals over the line.

This comes after deals for both Victor Munoz and Johan Manzambi were hijacked by Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively, despite the Magpies having agreed deals.

It has been a long-standing issue for them, having previously missed out on the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro, and Jaissle must now contend with those failings.
