Jacob Murphy makes Newcastle transfer plan - ‘In the next few weeks…’

Jacob Murphy is keen to stay at Newcastle to fight for his place in the team under new manager Matthias Jaissle, sources have told Football Insider.

Eddie Howe's Newcastle departure has led to question marks around Murphy's own future at St James' Park.

The 31-year-old was a favourite of the now ex-Magpies boss, but will now have the slate wiped clean under new manager Jaissle.

Everton have targeted Murphy this summer as David Moyes looks to add experience and reliability to his squad.

He is not exploring the move, though, after I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast that Murphy remains keen to impress Jaissle in his first weeks at the club.

The German boss has some key decisions to make on Tyneside, and could still decide to let Murphy leave if he can not promise him regular game time.

Murphy has made 265 appearances for Newcastle and is their longest-serving player as it stands, having joined from Norwich in 2017.

The versatile winger struggled to make an impact last term and may see his minutes lessen even further under Jaissle, but he is still looking to prove his worth to the new manager.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "There's a new manager now at Newcastle, with Matthias Jaissle replacing Eddie Howe, and Murphy was a big favourite of Howe's and got lots of minutes.

"It'll be interesting to see if he fits in Jaissle's plans going forward on Tyneside. It's a clean slate for everybody at Newcastle under the new manager.

"Murphy himself will be hoping he can impress Jaissle in the next few weeks before the new Premier League season begins."

Jaissle makes Ewen Jaouen decision after Lukas Hornicek arrival

It has been all change at Newcastle this summer, not least in the goalkeeper position, where two signings have arrived to compete with Nick Pope.

Young French stopper Jaouen joined from Reims in June, while the Magpies snapped up Braga keeper Hornicek in a £25.7million deal last week.

With Jaissle set to make several key squad decisions, sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Jaouen is set to be loaned out for the coming campaign.

Pope has been linked with a move away, but instead looks likely to be competing with Hornicek for the number one spot under the new boss.
