Matthias Jaissle is supposedly under pressure at Newcastle United, but he won't be the first Premier League manager sacked in 2026-27.

Despite back-to-back defeats to Coventry City and Aston Villa, the Magpies remain sitting 11th in the league standings after seven matches.

Some of his team's performances have been unconvincing, it would be fair to say, but it was always going to be a difficult process this season.

Newcastle lost several key players, such as Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, and signed some exciting, yet raw, talents as replacements.

Some have adapted well, such as Lukas Hornicek and Nico Gonzalez, but others are taking some time to settle in and find their feet.

That was always to be expected, so any whispers of Jaissle potentially being the first Premier League manager sacked this term are ludicrous.

Matthias Jaissle to get Premier League rival sacked this weekend

It's especially ludicrous when looking at Newcastle's next opponents.

On Sunday, 25 October, the Magpies travel to St James' Park to face Crystal Palace, and it could easily be the final nail in the coffin for Pierre Sage.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Palace have "no choice" but to sack their current manager, who has left them 14th in the Premier League table.

It has been revealed by the Daily Mail that Steve Parish held crunch talks with Sage before the draw with Leeds United, and performances have been utterly woeful since.

The Eagles will be desperate for a win after losing 3-2 to Lyon and 5-0 to Brighton, but it could easily be the end of the road for their manager instead.

Of course, he may not reach that game, with Palace facing Besiktas in the Europa League on Thursday, 22 October. It's one to keep an eye on.

Crystal Palace left with 'no choice' but to sack Pierre Sage - 'You can't survive that'

What are Pierre Sage's chances of being sacked?

Plenty could change between now and Sunday's game at Selhurst Park, but either way, the atmosphere is going to be incredibly toxic.

Somehow, Sage is not currently the favourite to be sacked next, with Manchester United's Michael Carrick priced at 7/4 by the bookies.

Palace's manager, on the other hand, is priced at 2/1, slightly better odds than Carrick, while Jaissle is all the way up at 12/1, though his price has dropped.

It seems incredibly early in the campaign to be talking about managers being sacked, but that is the reality of Premier League football. It's cut-throat.
