Newcastle given green light to strike late Ethan Nwaneri deal
Newcastle United have been given the green light to sign one of Arsenal's best and brightest before the window slams shut.
Keith Wyness told Football Insider earlier in the window that discussions had been opened to sign 19-year-old Ethan Nwaneri.
The young attacker spent the 2025-26 campaign out on loan at Marseille, where he notched two goals and one assist before being dropped completely.
It was a very disappointing end to proceedings in France, and rather unexpected scenes based on what Arsenal fans expected from him.
Several clubs, including the Magpies and Everton, remain interested Nwaneri's signature, though, and there is time left to strike a deal.
All signs have pointed towards the exit door for the academy graduate this summer, but the main question has been about the type of deal.
Newcastle United must reignite Ethan Nwaneri interest
Now, the Gunners have put all their cards on the table, revealing just how Matthias Jaissle can add another young, dynamic talent to his roster.
Sources say that Mikel Arteta's side are prioritising a loan move for Nwaneri ahead of 2026-27, not wanting to sell him at this stage.
There is acknowledgement that the 19-year-old needs regular football at this point in his career, and he can certaintly get that at St James' Park.
With Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes gone, and an underwhelming transfer window so far, there is plenty of space for competition at Newcastle.
Should Newcastle fail to bring in some more playmakers, there appears to be a huge lack of creativity in the squad ahead of a very difficult campaign.
How could Matthias Jaissle line up vs Liverpool?
Newcastle kick off their campaign against Liverpool on Sunday, 23 August, a team also experiencing a strange time ahead of the new Premier League season.
The goalkeeper position is one of the most heavily debated, with Nick Pope, Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen also possibly starting.
A back four is likely to consist of Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, Malick Thiaw and Amar Dedic, though Dan Burn or Tino Livramento could easily fill in.
With several stars gone, Joelinton and Aladji Bamba could line up behind Jacob Ramsey, supporting Yoane Wissa, Anthony Elanga and Bazoumana Toure.
