Newcastle have lost a staggering sum as Nick Woltemade's value tumbles - Finance Expert

Newcastle United have flushed millions of pounds down the drain as Nick Woltemade continues to struggle away from St James' Park.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the record signing's value has dropped rapidly since his move to England.

As Alexander Isak's replacement, the Magpies splashed £69million on Woltemade, who has since been sent out on loan to Juventus for 2026-27.

Despite being signed as an out-and-out centre-forward and impressing straight away, his performances dropped rather worryingly, with Eddie Howe also playing him out of position.

While he already has two goals for Juventus, both coming in the Europa League, the Serie A giants are believed to have no intentions of signing the player permanently.

That suggests a return to St James' Park is inevitable for Woltemade, but Football Insider understands that Newcastle have already opened the door to a sale.

Nick Woltemade's value has dropped to £40m

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has estimated that Woltemade's price has already dropped from £69m to below £40m.

"He signed for €81.8m (£69m). Clearly they've lost a lot of the money on the player, probably €25m (£21m) to €35m (£29.5m) on him already, unless he has a great season," he said.

"When you sign a player for £69m, the wages for that player are very big. So when you come to try sell that player. He's only 24 or 25 this season.

"It's not easy to get the player out the door. And so these are all... This is why when you make a mistake like this, transfer-wise, you've got a big problem."

"They knew they were overpaying by, let's say, £10m. It was obvious to everybody that the player was very expensive, given what he'd done. So they were stuck."

Not all hope should be lost for the 24-year-old attacker, who netted his second goal for Juventus in the 2-1 win over Celta Vigo on Thursday, 15 October.

He pounced on a mistake from Marcos Alonso, but it was a much more complete performance than he's shown for the Magpies for quite some time.

In 90 minutes, he created seven chances, the most of anyone, took 12 touches in the opposition box, the most of anyone, and took four shots, also the most of anyone [FotMob].

Woltemade also missed a big chance, completed 100 per cent of his dribbles, entered into nine duels, and even won two fouls.
