Ousmane Diabate has continued to impress on loan at Genclerbirligi while Newcastle United wait for his eventual arrival.

The Magpies reportedly paid just £250,000 for the 19-year-old in the summer, agreeing to loan him straight back to Turkey.

The Guinea international broke through last season but has become a key man in Super Lig this season, featuring on Saturday as his team narrowly lost to Galatasaray.

Irfan Egribayat's late goal ultimately proved the difference between the sides, but Diabate caught the eye for his display in the middle.

The teenager's impressive displays come amid a struggle back in Newcastle, who were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa on Saturday.

Matthias Jaissle appears yet to discover his best team, with the midfield pairing seemingly changing every single week.

Ousmane Diabate thriving in Turkey

It is a true testament to the faith being placed in Diabate that he has given so much responsibility in the Genclerbirligi side.

Manager Bernd Storck deploys the youngster as the lone deepest midfielder, with a five-man midfield situated ahead of him.

The 19-year-old played the role well against Galatasaray on Saturday, attracting significant attention with the way he stood up against the Super Lig leaders.

Diabate created a chance, took a shot, made eight passes into the final third and completed the two successful dribbles he attempted - the most of any Genclerbirligi player.

His defensive work was supreme, too. The young midfielder made two tackles, a block and four interceptions - more than anybody else.

Diabate made two clearances and four recoveries, too, winning four of the six duels he contested on the day.

Newcastle's plan for Ousmane Diabate revealed after 'medical' update

What did Diabate say after joining Newcastle?

Diabate will return to Newcastle next summer and is expected to make his way straight into the first team.

The 19-year-old will join a crop of young midfielders at St James' Park, although he will hope to find more trust than some of the other summer arrivals.

Aladji Bamba cost Newcastle around £35million but has seriously struggled for minutes, coming off the bench just three times in the Premier League and failing to feature in the Carabao Cup.

Sean Steur had started the season as a key man but now finds himself in a similar position.

"I know Newcastle is an amazing club and there have been a lot of big players who have been here in the past," Diabate said after joining in September.

"I know players like Allan Saint-Maximin and Hatem Ben Arfa who have played here in the past. I know that the fans are absolutely amazing and that they give everything.

"My main aim at Newcastle will be to play and show people what I am capable of doing. Above all, I want to help the team win and why not play in the Champions League, become champions of England or win a European title.

"Newcastle are a massive team who deserve to lift trophies and I'll certainly fight to help the club achieve that."
