Newcastle player with ten last-third passes who won 100% of his duels vs Crystal Palace is the real deal
Amar Dedic's return from injury was key to Newcastle United ending their barren run by beating Crystal Palace 2-0 on Sunday.
Will Osula and Harvey Barnes scored a quickfire double just after the break to propel the Magpies into a comfortable lead, with the home side ultimately unable to respond.
Both Matthias Jaissle and Pierre Sage were under pressure ahead of the game, but it is the latter who will now face serious conversations over his future.
Newcastle signed Dedic from Benfica for around £30million in the summer transfer window, and he had got off to a superb start in the Premier League.
That was until the 24-year-old picked up an injury and was ruled out for around a month, making his return off the bench against Coventry City earlier this month.
Sunday saw Dedic make his full return, and the effect on the rest of his team was instantly clear.
Amar Dedic's brilliant stats vs Crystal Palace
Dedic, with his constant overlapping runs, provides a threat for Newcastle that simply does not exist without him.
The 24-year-old was at it again on Sunday, providing the assist for Barnes' goal with a perfect cut-back that came from his run on the outside.
And there was plenty more to like about the defender's display, too, including his 10 passes into the final third.
Dedic made three clearances and five recoveries on the day, proving key as Newcastle secured only their second Premier League clean sheet of the season.
The Bosnia and Herezegovina international was superb in the air, too, winning 100 per cent of his aerial duels.
Jaissle was keen to sign Dedic in the summer, and it has become increasingly clear that the right-back is integral to his plans.
Tino Livramento future unclear
There had already been talk that Tino Livramento could be set to leave Newcastle last summer.
The 23-year-old was selected for England's World Cup squad and was linked with Arsenal, before injury ruled out both possibilities.
The right-back has already returned and been injured again this season, with his consistent problems becoming a serious cause for concern.
And with Dedic and Lewis Hall appearing to be Jaissle's first-choice full-backs, Livramento's future at Newcastle is beginning to look increasingly unclear.
