Newcastle set sights on Tyler Adams deal after 'surprise' twist

Newcastle United are plotting a move to sign Bournemouth star Tyler Adams as they put plans in place to bolster thier midfield options.

The 27-year-old enjoyed an impressive season with Bournemouth last time out as he helped them qualify for the Europa League, before impressing at the World Cup with the USA.

Those performances have placed a number of Premier League clubs on alert, including both Newcastle and Man United, who are aiming to land new midfielders this summer.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Michael Carrick's side have no plans to make a move for Adams, opening the door for Newcastle to swoop.

The Red Devils are instead looking at a number of other midfield options, meaning Newcastle may be given a free run at signing the USA international this summer.

It remains to be seen whether Adams would be tempted to leave Bournemouth, having led them into Europe and established himself as a fans' favourite.

Could Newcastle make a move to sign Tyler Adams?

Football Insider revealed in May that Newcastle are planning to sign a new midfielder as a priority, while this summer's departures have made their plans even more urgent.

Man United are believed to have been keeping tabs on Adams since his time at Leeds United, but with other options in mind, Newcastle are poised to swoop.

Despite Eddie Howe's shock departure earlier this week, they remain keen to strengthen in midfield following the departure of Sandro Tonali and uncertainty over Bruno Guimaraes.

"Tyler Adams is a good player and he's done a very good job for Bournemouth," Brown told Football Insider.

"But I would be extremely surprised if he was somebody Man United made a move for this summer, and I don't think it's something they're considering at the moment.

"They want a top-class replacement for Casemiro, and despite being an aggressive midfielder, I don't think Adams ticks many of their boxes.

"However, if there is a possibility that he could leave Bournemouth this summer, one clubs who I do believe are watching him is Newcastle.

"They want to sign a new midfielder because they're losing key players in that position, and Adams is somebody whose performances will have put him on their radar.

"He's done well in the Premier League for Bournemouth, and at the World Cup as well with the USA, so I'm sure they will have been keeping an eye on him.

"A lot might depend on whether or not he is willing to leave Bournemouth, because they had a very good season and now they're in Europe, but Newcastle will feel they can convince him."

What is the latest on Man United's pursuit of Adams?

Adams has been heavily linked with a move to Man United as Carrick continues to put plans in place to bolster his midfield in the summer transfer window.

Having already pulled off deals for both Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, they are targeting a third signing as a more natural replacement for Casemiro.

Football Insider reported on 29 July that Adams could be the ideal signing for Man United, as his Premier League stats and performances show he outranks his rivals.

However, the Red Devils are currently believed to be looking elsewhere in their pursuit, with the likes of Manu Kone, Carlos Baleba and Adams' teammate Alex Scott in their sights.

A number of different options have been assessed, with Adams unlikely to feature high on their shortlist, potentially opening the door for him to move elsewhere.
