Eddie Howe is facing a crisis at Newcastle United as some of his biggest names continue to move away this summer.

Alexander Isak's future was the main talking point this time last year, and the Newcastle boss has already bid farewell to Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

Of course, those exits were not cheap, with the money being reinvested in deals for Bazoumana Toure and Ewen Jaouen, but fans are concerned.

In 2025-26, the Magpies finished 12th in the Premier League, a huge drop from their previous achievements, and that could be about to get worse.

In addition to Gordon and Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes now wants to leave St James' Park, with Arsenal preparing an offer worth over £60million for his signature.

While these figures should pay for a squad rebuild, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento could also be off this summer, and none of these names will be easy to replace.

Newcastle United edging closer to relegation battle already

Everything keeps getting worse in the North East, and that's without even mentioning Liverpool's hijacking of a deal for Victor Munoz earlier in the window.

Howe is already under a mountain of pressure, with fans even turning on PIF for a lack of urgency being shown in the transfer market right now.

Just a few days ago, a major bookmaker had price Newcastle's chances of relegation next season at 40/1, but their safety isn't so certain now.

That same bookmaker has brought the price all the way down to 25/1, with Manchester City at 12/1, likely due to their overhanging charges, and Brighton also at 25/1.

Relegation from the Premier League really would be a disaster for the Magpies, who have continued to build upwards over the last decade, but anything can happen in football.

What are the odds on Eddie Howe's future?

It has already been suggested that the Newcastle boss won't make it until the end of the 2026-27 campaign, and the current situation isn't helping at all.

One bookmaker has Howe being the first Premier League manager to be sacked priced at 6/1, with Sergej Jakirovic, Frank Lampard and Gary O'Neil all more likely.

That is very common with managers of teams who have just won promotion up to the first tier, however, so the Newcastle man should be worried.

If PIF are unable to support him in the transfer market properly, Howe will feel back into a corner, and may even feel that he has taken the club as far as he possibly can.
