Eddie Howe to surely be sacked by Newcastle after damning Bruno Guimaraes reveal – verdict
Eddie Howe’s sacking at Newcastle United will be inevitable if Bruno Guimaraes leaves the club this summer.
The Brazil international has reportedly handed in a transfer request at St James’ Park amid Arsenal interest in the midfielder.
The 28-year-old could be the third big-name player to depart if he is sold after Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.
However, the loss of the captain could be the most damning for Howe, with Guimaraes proving to be key to multiple victories since his arrival at St James’ Park in 2022.
In fact, when the midfielder has not been on the pitch, the Magpies are usually awful, and this trend is likely to continue if he is sold.
Last season, Guimaraes made 29 appearances in the Premier League and scored nine goals.
Newcastle United have won just 12.5 per cent of Premier League matches without Bruno Guimaraes
Guimaraes’ importance to Newcastle’s success is obvious, but it was perhaps not realised until now just how important he is.
According to Opta on 10 July, the Magpies have only won 12.5 per cent of their Premier League matches since 2022 without the Brazil international.
In the 16 matches he has not featured in the English top-flight, Newcastle have lost nine, drawn five and won just one, averaging 0.7 points per game.
In comparison, when he has been on the field, they have won 52.3 per cent of their matches, with an average of 1.8 points per game.
As a result, if Guimaraes is sold, Howe’s sacking at Newcastle feels inevitable.
Last summer proved that the manager is incapable of replacing players in the transfer market, and if the Magpies lose a player which such an influence on the pitch, his dismissal is all but certain.
Who could replace Guimaraes at St James’ Park?
A player who has been heavily linked to Newcastle in recent weeks is Lamine Camara.
The 22-year-old Monaco midfielder has reportedly been identified as a potential replacement for Guimaraes if he is to depart this summer.
Camara was part of Senegal’s squad this summer that were knocked out of the 2026 World Cup in the round of 32.
However, it remains to be seen if Newcastle will make an offer for the upcoming star.
