'There's a lot happening at Newcastle' - Keith Wyness drops Matthias Jaissle sack verdict

Published on:

Newcastle United won't consider sacking manager Matthias Jaissle until the end of January at the earliest.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the finger of blame needs to be pointed elsewhere within the club.

The Magpies initially made a bright start to the season under their new boss, but have now lost three of their last four games in the Premier League.

However, Wyness believes that the finger cannot be pointed at Jaissle just yet, given that he arrived at the club following two challenging transfer windows.

The North East outfit lost several key players in the summer, and replaced them with young stars who are largely unproven at the elite level.

Heavy defeats to both Leeds United and Coventry City have piled the pressure on the boss in recent weeks, but Wyness does not expect the club to panic just yet.

Matthias Jaissle not the man to blame at Newcastle

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Newcastle must show a "firm resolve" and give Jaissle the time he needs to turn things around properly at St James' Park.

The Scottish businessman believes that the German is not the main reason for the Magpies' struggles of late, given the huge change that the club has undergone in the last 12 months.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained why he does not expect Jaissle to come under any genuine threat until January.

"I think there's going to be a firm resolve behind him to keep him there and to keep moving with him. I think they can see signs behind the scenes that he's got what it takes to really move the squad forward," he said.

"What they've also got to do, though, is not point the finger at him because there's been two bad windows he's been coming into, and they've changed everything all at once.

"They've changed the managers, they've changed the badge, they've changed a lot of things, and there's a lot of things happening at Newcastle.

"They will stick with him, and I certainly think unless there's a dramatic decline, it would be really by the end of January; I think they'd be giving him until then and make a move then if things went disastrously wrong.

"But I don't see it going that badly. And it's not really him to be blamed. They've all got to look in the mirror at Newcastle and work together as a team to fix this."

'Like a rabbit in the headlights' - Matthias Jaissle faces Newcastle sack threat

Matthias Jaissle 'like a rabbit in the headlights'

Former Tottenham and Everton scout Bryan King told Football Insider earlier this week that he feels Jaissle has been like a "rabbit in the headlights" since moving to the Premier League.

Fears are beginning to grow that the 38-year-old could potentially lose his job on Tyneside, given that the club's ambitions are so high.

King believes that Jaissle does not inspire confidence in his squad, and feels that he may be a little out of place at the top level.

His Newcastle side travel to face Crystal Palace this weekend, and another boss who finds himself under serious pressure in Pierre Sage.
