Nick Woltemade sends message as Bruno Guimaraes confirms Newcastle exit

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes in a £75million move from Newcastle United.

The Brazilian has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, finally putting a saga that has lasted for weeks to an end.

The Magpies had initially refused to look at any offer for the 28-year-old this summer, but reluctantly agreed to hear out an acceptable offer when the player asked to leave.

Club captain Guimaraes' exit follows Eddie Howe, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier, in what has been a dramatic summer for Newcastle.

Young midfielders Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba have already arrived this summer, but it is thought that up to three more arrivals are sought at St James' Park.

The likes of Felix Nmecha and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have been linked in recent days, but the top of Newcastle's list remains unclear.

For many Newcastle fans, the transfer saga surrounding Guimaraes this summer has served as a reminder.

Loyalty only goes so far in football. The Brazilian has been the darling of the St James' Park faithful ever since he arrived in 2022, and when Arsenal's interest emerged, many thought he would reject it.

On several occasions, the 28-year-old has spoken of his deep love for the Magpies and it was thought that he would spend the remainder of his career in black and white.

But with the champions laying down the chance of more trophies, Guimaraes told Newcastle that he wanted to take the opportunity.

Ultimately, the midfielder was respectful throughout the process, which was in no way comparable to the saga that led to Alexander Isak's departure, but it will be his request to leave that is remembered at St James' Park.

He took to Instagram to share a message with the fans following confirmation of his exit and wrote: "It was beautiful to live these nearly five years with you all."

Nick Woltemade reacted to the post and left a comment with three heart emojis.

Former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock may well have given Guimaraes some insight on a potential move to the Emirates Stadium, and liked the post.

Aaron Ramsdale, who also liked it, was on loan at Newcastle last season and may have also shared some of his experiences with the Gunners.

Tottenham striker and Brazil teammate Richarlison also reacted, along with Gabriel Magalhaes.

Guimaraes will always be remembered at St James' Park, but how he is remembered may well depend on who you speak to.
