Sources: Dan Burn set for Newcastle talks as new plan revealed
Jaissle named Burn as his new club captain ahead of the start of the campaign following the exits of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes.
The 34-year-old enjoyed a fine summer with England at the World Cup but is yet to feature under his new Magpies boss due to an ankle injury.
He is expected to return after the upcoming international break but could struggle to start games as their other centre-backs begin the season in strong form.
Burn is in the final year of his Newcastle contract, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the club are planning to open talks over a new deal soon.
He will be offered an extension if he can prove to the club, and Jaissle, that he is still capable of regularly operating at the top level.
Dan Burn could sign fresh terms at Newcastle soon
Burn featured 44 times across all competitions for the Magpies last season as he filled in at left-back and centre-back.
Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw have impressed at the start of this campaign, while Lewis Hall remains fit for now, so Burn may well find it tough to have as much of an impact on the pitch for Newcastle this season.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Newcastle will judge him on his merits, how he performs and what he can bring to the team as well.
"Because of his influential role in that side, and if Newcastle want to have some more experienced older heads around the younger squad, Burn will definitely be somebody that they'll be looking to keep hold of long term."
Joe Willock also set for new deal on one condition
Willock was heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle in the summer, but Jaissle made sure that he stayed at the club beyond the deadline.
The German boss has utilised the ex-Arsenal midfielder at the start of this season, and he has scored twice in five appearances so far to repay the faith shown in him.
The 27-year-old is also approaching the end of his initial contract in June 2027.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle will offer Willock a new deal if he can prove his worth to Jaissle across the whole campaign.
