Sources: Newcastle make new Joelinton transfer plan after what he said

Newcastle have no plans to let Joelinton leave the club in January despite rumours circling around his future, sources have told Football Insider.

The 30-year-old is the last man standing in Newcastle's starting midfield of recent years after the summer exits of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

He is yet to feature competitively under Matthias Jaissle after suffering a muscle injury in pre-season.

Joelinton was closely linked to the Saudi Pro League before suffering the injury blow, and his future remains up in the air as it stands.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Newcastle's chiefs and Jaissle do not want Joelinton to leave midway through the season as he prepares to take up a key role in the German's squad.

The Brazilian international is targeting a return to action after the international break as the Magpies travel to Coventry City on 12 October.

Joelinton registered eight goal contributions in 42 appearances last season as he continued his impressive St James' Park career.

He has earned cult-hero status on Tyneside in recent years, and the club do not want to lose a player of his status and quality in the January window.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I'm sure Newcastle aren't counting on Joelinton leaving the club. There was a big upheaval of players in the summer as they lost key performers like Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

"I think Newcastle would ideally like to keep Joelinton around. He's been a big miss so far this season through injury and hasn't featured, but they will be hoping that he is back soon to add some depth to Matthias Jaissle's squad."

Rumours around Joelinton's future have arisen once more after he gave an exclusive interview following some time out of the spotlight recovering from his injury.

The 30-year-old admitted to The Chronicle earlier this week that he was sad to see Eddie Howe depart, but is looking forward to the future under new manager Jaissle.

He said: "I have a lot of good things to say about Eddie, we just had a great relationship from day one, but now this is in the past. What he did is history now and stays in the past.

"Now we move on as a club at Newcastle because football never stops. We hope to achieve great things with Matthias Jaissle now."
