Supercomputer updates Newcastle's relegation chances after Leeds mauling

Matthias Jaissle was given a tough welcome to the Premier League when his Newcastle United side travelled to Elland Road.

It was a result that has left Jaissle's side sitting 12th in the Premier League table after four games, while the Whites are up to third, just behind Arsenal and Manchester City.

Newcastle have only beaten Tottenham Hotspur so far, but with an upcoming fixture against Hull City, the new squad really must prove itself.

Supporters were already concerned about the potential for relegation before the season kicked off, and some of those voices are reemerging.

Draws with Liverpool and Bournemouth had brought some fans onside with the new, untried manager, but very few would have expected the 4-1 defeat at Elland Road.

Their next three games, which includes relegation-bound Coventry City, could be crucial in the context of Newcastle's campaign.

According to Opta's supercomputer, the Magpies are still expected to finish eighth in the Premier League table, with a 13.32 per cent chance of securing Champions League football.

At the opposite end of the table, their chances of relegation stand at just 7.6 per cent, but the alarm bells will not yet be ringing at St James' Park.

Before the campaign kicked off, the supercomputer still expected Newcastle to finish sixth, but they have slipped down the pecking order.

After the trip to Elland Road, supporters are bound to be crying out for the manager to be sacked. That is simply part and parcel of football.

However, one major bookmaker would suggest that the 38-year-old has very few chances of being the next Premier League manager relieved from his post.

Fulham's Alvaro Arbeloa is currently the favourite at 5/2, with Frank Lampard priced at 13/2 to be sacked at Coventry City after yet another defeat.

Jaissle, on the other hand, is 20/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave the division. Fans just need to remain patient.
