Joe Willock's 100% and 0.86 stats show exactly why he should get Newcastle extension
Joe Willock had been strongly linked with a Newcastle United departure in the summer transfer window but remains at the club post-deadline day.
The 27-year-old midfielder was wanted by Besiktas, and many of the St James’ Park faithful were happy to see him leave if the club’s asking price was met.
However, not only is Willock now set to play a part in the 2026-27 campaign, but he could also extend his contract at the club after a transformative start to the season.
Reports suggest that talks over a 12-month contract are likely for the midfielder, whose current deal expires next summer.
Despite some poor performances in the last campaign, when examining his stats so far this season, it is of little surprise.
Willock has impressed early on for Matthias Jaissle, and could now be rewarded for his recent displays.

Willock has no doubt had a great start to the 2026-27 campaign.
The midfielder has started in both of Newcastle’s opening fixtures, and netted in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.
On top of this, his stats have also been excellent in the Premier League.
According to Fotmob on 4 September, Willock has averaged 0.86 goals, a 0.14 xG, 3.43 shots, 0.86 shots on target, a 0.16 xA, 0.86 chances created and 0.86 big chances created.
Therefore, if Craig Hope’s report is correct, it is of little surprise that Newcastle could explore a new deal.
If Willock keeps up these types of displays, there is no doubt that he can make a big impact throughout the current campaign.
Which other Newcastle players have contracts that expire in 2027?
On top of Willock, several other Newcastle players have contracts only lasting until 2027.
The biggest two players are no doubt Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy, who have been mainstays in the Magpies’ squad for years.
On top of this, Nick Pope and Fabian Schar also have deals that are up in the summer, with the same being true for Mark Gillespie.
However, it remains to be seen if Newcastle are prepared to hand out new contracts to these players before their deals expire next summer.
