Lewis Miley is set to be offered a new contract extension by Newcastle United as they aim to block growing Premier League interest.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a valuable asset in Eddie Howe's squad and has played a significant role despite what has been a frustrating season.

His current contract at St James' Park is set to run until 2029, putting the Magpies in a strong position over his future, but they are keen to extend his stay.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Howe will step up efforts to keep Miley amid concerns about other midfielders in his squad.

Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have both been linked with moves away this summer, and keeping Miley could be vital to Newcastle's transfer plans.

How does Lewis Miley feel about staying at Newcastle?

Brown told Football Insider earlier this season at Newcastle would block any offers for Miley despite growing interest from a number of top clubs.

There have been suggestions that the Magpies may be forced to sell if they miss out on European football, but Miley is unlikely to be moved on.

The Newcastle academy product is seen as a huge part of Howe's plans for the long-term future and they are not considering letting him go any time soon.

"Newcastle cannot be seen to be losing their best young players," Brown told Football Insider.

"Especially not to Premier League rivals, because that would be a huge blow to any club, and the fans would not be happy at all.

"Lewis Miley has impressed whenever he's been called upon and Eddie Howe sees him as a top player both now and for the future, even if he doesn't start every week.

"It looks like Newcastle could be losing other midfielders this summer, the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, so that could open the door for him.

"Newcastle want to deter those other Premier League clubs who have been looking at him.

"A new contract is the best way to do that, he would commit his future to the club and end any speculation, plus it would be a reward for his good form.

"So I expect talks will take place with that in mind at the end of the season."

Which Premier League clubs are interested in Miley?

Brown told Football Insider last summer that Newcastle could accept offers for Miley as they struggled with financial restrictions, but those concerns have been eased.

Claims that Miley could be allowed to leave Newcastle saw a spike of interest in his signature from Premier League rivals, who have been keeping tabs on him.

The likes of Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all previously shown an interest in the Newcastle midfielder in hopes of luring him away.

Lower down the footballing pecking order, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Brighton are all said to have been keeping tabs on the midfielder's situation in the past.

The level of interest in Miley is due to his undoubted talent, and while a lack of recent playing time could be a concern, that is set to change in the near future.
