Newcastle fans will love what Carlo Ancelotti said about Zion Suzuki as 'approach' made
Newcastle United have reportedly held talks to sign World Cup sensation Zion Suzuki this summer transfer window.
The Parma goalkeeper’s representatives have been in touch with the Magpies, and discussions have been held over a potential move.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper was one of the stars of the summer tournament as he helped Japan reach the knockout stages before they were defeated by Brazil.
As a result, Parma values the star at around £17million, and while Newcastle favour a move for James Trafford, Suzuki is a potential option.
Nevertheless, despite being a backup option this summer, the Japan international has received heavy praise from several notable figures, including Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Suzuki played 20 matches in the Serie A last season and kept five clean sheets.
Carlo Ancelotti: Zion Suzuki has done very well at Parma
Multiple teams are reportedly pursuing Suzuki after his performances at the World Cup.
The goalkeeper has emerged as one of the best upcoming talents from the tournament after he put in numerous man-of-the-match displays.
The Chronicle Live has now claimed that Newcastle are one of these sides, which should excite the fanbase.
Before Brazil’s match against East Asian side, Ancelotti was asked which Japan player he would like to see play for his side.
He then told Makanbola on 29 June: "I pay attention to Japanese players, especially those who play for Parma."
"I follow some Japanese players. One of them is Zion Suzuki from Parma. I'm also from Parma. He did a very good job there.”
This should delight the St. James’ Park faithful, as one of the best managers of all time clearly sees the goalkeeper as a talent.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if they are able to get a deal over the line in the coming weeks.
Who else are Newcastle linked with?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Newcastle could make a move for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori this summer transfer window.
Eddie Howe is looking to add defensive reinforcements to his squad, and the centre-back could be targeted if the Italian giants are willing to make a sale.
The Magpies' recruitment drive is set to accelerate in the coming weeks after some high-profile sales, with additions needed all over the pitch.
Tomori has already seen numerous links away in recent weeks as he enters the final year of his contract at the San Siro, with Coventry City reportedly interested.
