Yoanne Wissa and 0.86 flop axed: Three Newcastle players should be dropped vs Crystal Palace
Matthias Jaissle will be forced to make crunch decisions when Newcastle United visit Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Pressure on the 38-year-old to produce results is mounting after his side suffered three defeats in their last four Premier League games.
The German was appointed in the summer after Eddie Howe stepped down and had started well, having been unbeaten in the first five games across all competitions of his tenure.
But Newcastle have slowed, with Jaissle's selection decisions beginning to breed frustration within the fanbase.
He will face off against another under-fire manager in Pierre Sage on Sunday, with the Crystal Palace boss favourite to be the first in the Premier League to face the sack this season.
With Jaissle keen to take himself out of the conversation, Football Insider has named three players he must consider axing.
Yoane Wissa
Though Yoane Wissa started the season well and looked to have gained a new lease of life under Jaissle, he has slowed significantly.
The striker has not scored since the end of August and squandered key chances against Aston Villa last week.
The return of Will Osula will provide the chance to pair him with new arrival Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who may benefit from a quicker option ahead of him.
Wissa will remain a strong option from the bench, but he has not contributed nearly enough to prove that he should belong in the starting line-up.
Joelinton
One of the biggest questions facing Jaissle from Newcastle fans is about the sudden disappearance of Sean Steur.
The 18-year-old arrived from Ajax in the summer and enjoyed a superb start to his Premier League career, starting before the international break.
Yet he has been an unused substitute in both games since the Magpies have returned, with his manager unable to offer an excuse other than that the midfielder shares similarities with Nico Gonzalez.
Joelinton has just returned from injury but should return to the bench for now - Jaissle must prioritise his team and start Steur alongside Gonzalez.
Sven Botman
Across the last four Premier League games, Newcastle have conceded 10 goals.
While Sven Botman has not been directly at fault for many of those, he may ultimately become the fall-guy for a defensive switch-up that is evidently needed.
And the Dutchman has been far from impressive this season, registering just 0.86 tackles and being dribbled past 0.43 times per 90 in the Premier League so far.
With club captain Dan Burn finally having returned from injury, Jaissle may well opt for his aerial dominance and leadership.
While Botman has just as much a right of staying in the line-up as Malick Thiaw does, the latter's pace may be needed alongside Burn.
