Newcastle are interested in signing Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claim that Rafael Benitez wants to sign the 34-year-old in a £4million move this summer.
It is understood that Benitez wants to take the experienced shot stopper to St James’ Park after previously working with him at both Liverpool and parent club Napoli, which has seen the pair strike up a good relationship.
The report details that Reina is “unhappy” at Napoli and the Magpies feel they can capitalise with a bargain £4million swoop for the World Cup winner.
The Spaniard has just 12 months remaining with Serie A club Napoli and could be offered a move back to the Premier League.

Newcastle are preparing themselves for a return to the top flight next season after promotion from the Championship and Benitez is set to bring in some experienced players.
Reina enjoyed a superb nine-year spell with English giants Liverpool and kept 177 clean sheets during his 395 appearances.
Benitez may need to make room for a potential Reina arrival as they already have goalkeeper Karl Darlow, Matz Sels, Rob Elliot, Freddie Woodman and Tim Krul on their books.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle could do with some experienced heads ahead of their Premier League comeback and Reina would be a brilliant addition. The veteran goalkeeper should walk straight into the starting XI with his qualities and proved last season that he is still at the top of his game. He kept 14 clean sheets in 48 appearances for Napoli and could definitely still cut it in England. The £4million valuation of Reina would be a bargain price for such an elite player and his experience would be a massive boost in the dressing room. Benitez already has a good working relationship with the goalkeeper and a deal makes perfect sense.
