Carlos Carvalhal has emerged as one of the front-runners for the manager's job at Blackburn Rovers, Football Insider understands.

Rovers are searching for a new manager after the club announced Tony Mowbray has left Ewood Park following the expiration of his contract.

A Blackburn source has told Football Insider that Carvalhal is a top contender to take the reins ahead of next season.

The 56-year-old is being targeted by a number of clubs in England and abroad following his impressive spell at Braga.

Carvalhal guided the Portuguese side to the quarter-finals of the Europa League before losing to Rangers and has secured them qualification for next season's Europa League by finishing fourth in the Primeira Liga.

It would be a major coup for Blackburn Rovers to land the sought-after Portuguese manager this summer.

The Championship side could secure Carvalhal for nothing given his contract situation in Portugal.

His current deal with Braga expires at the end of this June so he can be secured without any compensation.

Carvalhal has vast experience of managing in England from his spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea.

He has an impressive record in the Championship, winning 49 of his 115 games in the division.

Blackburn Rovers occupied a play-off spot for much of the 2021-22 campaign but slipped out of contention in the latter stages of the season.
