Tottenham are closing in on appointing a new manager after holding further rounds of talks in recent days, Football Insider can reveal.

The Londoners have narrowed down their list of candidates after extensive meetings and a process that has taken in wide-ranging managers in the Premier League and overseas, across all age brackets.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider the club are increasingly confident of having the new man shortly after the end of the domestic season.

That would mean an appointment being made potentially in the week commencing 24th May, immediately after the finish of the Premier League campaign.

Tottenham have suffered complications in luring well-established Premier League managers including the likes of Brendan Rodgers.

The Spurs board have given up hope of luring him from Leicester City irrespective of whether they secure a top-four finish and a place in next season's Champions League.

A move for Marcelo Bielsa is unlikely as he prepares to extend his Leeds United contract by a further season.

That leaves the Londoners searching overseas or for a more readily-available domestic manager.

Fulham's Scott Parker has his supporters in the Tottenham boardroom, not least chairman Daniel Levy and he has a fine reputation as an up-and-coming manager.

More experienced Premier League operators like Roberto Martinez and Rafael Benitez have had discussions.

Benitez remains an interesting option for the Spurs board given his impressive CV that includes league and Champions League trophies, proven Premier League calibre as well as, crucially, his availability.

The Anglophile Spaniard, whose main family home is in England, is said to be keen on the Tottenham job as well as a return to the Premier League.
